Privacy Policy
Our Commitment
We love the internet and technology, but we’re frustrated with disingenuous privacy practices that promise the world yet hide critical details in fine print.
That’s why we created Pluq—a bookmark manager designed to simplify your life, not profit from your personal data.
Core Principles
We don’t track your browsing history.
Our browser extension is only activated when you decide to save or search for bookmarks. There are no background processes or data collection happening without your explicit action.
We can’t access your bookmarks.
All bookmark data is encrypted on your device using a unique encryption key generated by your PIN. Once encrypted and sent to our server, we cannot decrypt or read your bookmarks.
We don’t monitor your searches.
Our application contains no code that tracks or collects data based on your input, whether in your browser's search bar or the Pluq search bar.
We never sell your data to third parties.
Your data remains with us — no third parties have access to it. Enough said.
What we do care about when it comes to data is building the best, most reliable, and most useful product possible. To achieve this, we collect basic account information and usage data, none of which includes any sensitive bookmark data.
Important Definitions
The following terms are frequently used in this privacy policy but may not be common in everyday language. We want to take a moment to explain them.
Personal Data refers to any information that identifies or relates to a particular individual (often called "personally identifiable information" or "PII"). Data that is completely anonymized and cannot be linked to an individual user is not considered Personal Data.
Service Providers assist us in running our business and delivering our services to you. They may include:
Hosting, analytics, database, and communication providers, such as the authentication service we use to enable you to log into your account.
Support and customer service software providers, like the tools our team uses to communicate with you when you report a bug.
Security consultants who help us reduce security vulnerabilities in our software.
Service Providers are contractually required to handle your data only in ways that we specify, including being contractually prohibited from selling your data.
What personal data do we collect and how do we collect it?
When you use Pluq
When you reach out directly or otherwise choose to give us information
For instance, when you email us, submit a bug report, or request support, we'll collection the information you share with use to help solve your problem. Specifically, if you submit a bug report or contact us directly, we'll automatically collect operating system, browser, and device information to fulfill your inquiry as needed.
When you visit our website, pluq.io
We use technologies like cookies and pixel tags to provide, improve, protect, and promote our Services. For example, cookies help us with things like remembering your username for your next visit, understanding how you are interacting with our Services, and improving them based on that information. You can set your browser to not accept cookies, but this may limit your ability to use the Services. We may also use Service Providers that set cookies and similar technologies to promote Pluq services.
Subprocessors
When using the Service, certain data as detailed below will be sent to our AI subprocessor — OpenAI.
Pluq uses OpenAI's API platform to generate unidentifiable (and irreversible) embeddings of bookmark data for use in future search operations. We store these embeddings alongside the encrypted bookmark data, all of which contains no identifiable information visible to us as database owners.
Under what conditions would we share your personal data?
We never sell your data and will only share it in the following circumstances:
With our Service Providers as needed to provide and improve the product. Service Providers are contractually required to handle your data only in ways that we specify, including a contractual obligation not to sell your data.
If you ask us to. We will share your data only when you directly authorize it or if you share it yourself.
To meet our legal requirements or ensure safety. We may share your data to comply with legal obligations, enforce our legal rights, or for safety measures. See Why Do We Collect Personal Data? below for more details.
In the event of a change in company ownership. If there is a merger, acquisition, or bankruptcy, your data may be transferred to the new controlling party. Should such an event occur, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you before your information is subject to different privacy and security policies and practices.
Why do we collect personal data?
In general, we collect personal data to provide and improve our product and services. This includes data necessary for Pluq to function (such as account information) as well as data that helps us enhance Pluq (such as Device or Product Usage Data). We also collect data to ensure we can:
Protect against fraud and implement additional security measures.
Correspond with you if you reach out with a bug report, support request, or general inquiry. We may also send you updates, product information, or other marketing communications.
Meet legal requirements and enforce legal rights. We must comply with any reasonable and lawful legal processes, laws, or regulations that request the disclosure of personal information we've collected. This includes:
Enforcing our agreement terms or resolving disputes.
Protecting your rights, property, or safety, as well as that of any party interacting with our product.
How do we store and protect your data?
We take measures to protect the Personal Data we collect from unauthorized access, use, or sharing. However, it's important to remember that no method of transmitting or storing data over the internet is 100% secure. We also ask for your help in protecting your data by creating a strong PIN and limiting access to your device and account credentials.
We retain Personal Data for as long as you have an account with us or as necessary to provide our services. We may keep it longer only if required to meet legal obligations discussed above, or if the data is anonymized so it can’t be linked to a specific user.
Are there age limits to who can use the product?
We do not knowingly collect or solicit Personal Data from children under 16 years of age. If you are under 16, please do not attempt to register for or use the Services, or send us any Personal Data. If we learn that we have collected Personal Data from a child under 16, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe a child under 16 may have provided us with Personal Data, please contact us at support @pluq.io.
What are additional ways to enhance privacy online?
As an important reminder, Pluq's data practices may not extend to the websites you visit when using Pluq, which we can't control.
Here are some best practices to help safeguard your privacy across the web:
Avoid unknown or suspicious websites that may contain malware or phishing attempts.
Do not click on suspicious links in emails, messages, or unfamiliar websites, as these can lead to malicious sites or scams.
Review and adjust your browser’s security settings to block pop-ups and receive warnings about potentially unsafe sites.
Check the privacy settings on websites you visit to control what information they collect and share.
Stay vigilant for phishing scams, especially those asking for sensitive information or presenting urgent, unexpected requests.
Use secure search engines and privacy-focused browsers, such as DuckDuckGo or Firefox, to limit tracking.
Limit entering credentials in untrusted browsers or devices to reduce the risk of data exposure.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We’re always working to improve our product and services, so this Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. If we make changes, we’ll notify you by placing a notice within the app and on the Pluq website, or by contacting you directly, most likely via email.
